Audio Note speakers provide an interesting alternative to Reynauds. Considered by many to be the perfection of the British sound, AN speakers make friends easily and tend to keep them. Their sound is more refined and less overtly physical than that of Reynauds.
The Audio Note range of speakers have a history which is both extensive and well documented. For the benefit of the uninitiated, I’ll give a quick run through in the next couple of paragraphs. In a (quite large) nutshell, the late Peter Snell designed and built speakers which Peter Qvortrup of Audio Note obviously regarded as being ahead of the pack.
All Audio Note cabinets are 'book matched' so that both speakers are a mirror image of each other. Piano lacquer finishes are available at a premium per pair dependant on the model. Colours include Midnight Blue, Pearl White, Burgundy, British Racing Green, Black and others.

Audio Note AN-K. The AN-K is a speaker I’ve been guilty of overlooking for far too long. Getting acquainted with the latest version shows that these are now a seriously good speaker and one that are especially well suited to the average small listening room (circa 25 square metre, for example) that we tend to have in the UK.
Indeed, one of the most often heard comments about Audio Note's speakers, that I have heard, is how well the tweeter and woofer integrate because so much time has been spent tweaking the crossovers to make the smoothest possible overlap between drivers. Audio Note also believes that a 2-way speaker is the best way to go.
